A highly recommended day trip, especially on hot summer days, is a trip to one of our naturally formed gorges. There is something very special and unique about the atmosphere in a gorge with the rushing sound of white water, the moss-covered stones, rock formations, and the cool air from the fresh alpine water and rainbows formed at the waterfalls by the sunrays from above.

The Eisriesenwelt (transl. "Ice Giants' World") is the largest ice cave in the world and is a labyrinth with a total of 40 km underground. The ice sculptures form due to natural processes and are imposing ice formations and stunningly beautiful.

Salt Mine

In the past, salt was referred to as "white gold". And indeed, the underground salt mine in Dürrnberg near Hallein truly was the treasure chamber of this region. The Celts are known to have mined this valuable treasure from the mountain as far back as 2,500 years ago and signs of early mining are still found in the mines today.

Ice Palace & Sky Walk at the Dachstein Glacier
